After completion of my degree in Applied and Media Arts I concentrated on my textile work creating wall hangings, framed textiles and scarves made from luxurious fabrics, such as silk and velvet. I found that working with fabric enabled me to explore layering, colour, light and surface and the velvet and silk offered a beautiful, tactile surface with which to work. To enhance this further I devored the velvet creating random marks which suggested the natural lines and shapes of the form being investigated. The fabric was also hand dyed to create subtle colour variations and also machine and hand embroidered and further embellished with beads.

In addition to working with textiles I also paint. For me the two disciplines are interlinked. More recently I have been concentrating on the medium of painting as a way of further exploring colour, light and surface. All natural forms are my inspiration and I closely examine these in order to identify specific areas and layers, which are not readily visible at first glance. I use a microscope to further investigate the surface of an object. Viewed as a group these objects, such as trees, rocks, leaves or flowers, look very similar and ordinary but on close inspection each is as individual and unique as we are and I have attempted to reflect this in my work.

My current body of work is inspired by rocks and minerals. The subject's surface has been enlarged by use of a microscope so that the result is abstract in nature and challenges visual perceptions as the outcome is ambiguous. My paintings are oils on canvas so that I can obtain an intensity and quality of colour.

As a Fellow with the Digswell Arts Trust I work from my studio at The Forge in Digswell.
